World Environment Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm and creativity at St. Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary E.M. School, Pulluvazhy, Kerala. This year, the event became even more meaningful as it beautifully aligned with the school’s annual theme: “Be a Vessel and Voice of Hope”, reminding every student and teacher of our shared responsibility towards our common home—Mother Earth.
The kindergarten section led the celebrations with an innovative and heartwarming activity. The tiny tots prepared a “Nature Touch and Feel Board”, where they collected natural elements such as leaves, stones, flowers, twigs, and soil. This sensory board gave them a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature directly—by touching, feeling, and appreciating the textures and beauty of our environment. It was a small yet impactful way for them to begin their journey of environmental care.
The primary section students showcased their creativity through Twig Art and Leaf Rubbing Competitions. With twigs and leaves collected responsibly from the school grounds and nearby surroundings, the young artists created beautiful patterns and nature-inspired designs. These activities not only sparked artistic talents but also taught the students to use nature’s gifts respectfully and meaningfully.
The middle school students stole the spotlight with a powerful flash mob, aiming to raise awareness about the pressing need to reduce plastic usage and protect our environment. The performance was energetic and filled with strong messages, echoing the cry of the earth to be cared for and protected. Students also prepared billboards with eco-friendly messages and slogans, which were displayed around the campus to inspire action and reflection.
Adding to the excitement, students creatively made Seed Bombs using clay and native seeds. With joy and care, they planted these seed bombs on the school grounds, symbolizing a promise of green growth and a hopeful future. This hands-on activity taught them the importance of afforestation and natural regeneration.
The day concluded with a special assembly, where all students and staff came together to reflect on their duty to protect the earth. They pledged to be true “vessels and voices of hope,” committed to caring for nature not just on one day, but every day.
Indeed, the celebration was not just an event—it was a beginning. As the new academic year starts, the seeds of awareness, action, and hope have been sown in every heart a Josephite.
