Annual Sports Meet – 2026

St. Joseph’s Convent Higher Secondary School and Primary Section, Sambalpur, celebrated its 38th Annual Sports Meet with great zeal and splendour on 21st December 2025. The celebration was conducted in two vibrant sessions — the Primary Sports Meet in the morning and the High School Sports Meet in the evening — highlighting the institution’s commitment to holistic education through sports and culture.

The Primary Section was honoured by the presence of Shri Anand Bardhan Guru, Superintendent of Police, State Police Headquarters, Odisha, Cuttack, as the Chief Guest. The High School session was graced by Sister P. Selvi, Principal of St. Theresa English School, Sundergarh, and Regional Secretary and Treasurer of CISE Schools of Odisha. Distinguished Guests of Honour from the educational and medical fields further enriched the occasion.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic Torch, symbolising peace, unity, and sportsmanship. The Head Girl and student leaders carried the torch with pride. A graceful presentation of prayer dances blended with yoga followed, inspiring and captivating the audience.

A unique highlight was the celebration of Odisha’s rich tribal heritage. Through vibrant dances, songs, and cultural depictions of Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput, students beautifully showcased the depth and diversity of tribal traditions.

The sporting events demonstrated enthusiasm, discipline, and team spirit. Relay races, hurdles, zig-zag and balancing races, along with fun activities, added excitement to the day. Winners were awarded medals and certificates.

In the valedictory session, the Chief Guests praised the students’ performances and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the teachers and management. The Principal and Headmistress expressed heartfelt gratitude to all contributors.

The event concluded with the inspiring words of Colin Powell: “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”
