My dear Sisters,
Sisterly greetings to each of you!
These words come to you with the intention of assuring you of the fact that each of you are in my heart, thoughts and prayer.
Dear Sisters, we are going through a very bad, hard and uncharacteristically dangerous time in the history of the world. It is a life-threatening time, at the personal, community as well at the national level, not forgetting the international/global level. The pressure, the tensions, various anxieties and the shocking news of the deaths of countless number of people all over the world, including many Fathers and very many Sisters and many of our own family members, cannot but cause the feelings of total helplessness and fear, causing psychosomatic disorders in our lives. Add to that, the miseries of millions of people who are unemployed, who do not have a roof over their heads, whose children are abandoned and/or die of the corona virus, or of the black fungus of starvation. But thanks to our well protected lives, all of us are not only alive, but also well provided for and taken care of, thanks to Divine Providence and to the disciplined and prayerful lives we live.
This once in a life time experience certainly calls for our “magnificat” daily and many times a day. I am sure, in your communities there is no laxity where prayer life is concerned. It is true that the daily Eucharist – the SUN of our spiritual life is missing in our daily time table. And all of us are certainly hungry for this food for our Souls.
Please make up for it by spending more time with the lord in prayer, praying for the whole congregation, for all priests and religious, and for all of humanity. This is also the time when we have to minimize our expenses, contribute more for the upkeep of the poor and needy, support and encourage each other to avoid the temptation to give up hope and embrace despair. This is also the time when communities must be one at heart and one in their desires. These are the times to deliberately avoid travels, especially going on home holidays, outings and the like.
Avoid all celebrations and festivities of all kinds – birthdays, feast days, Jubilees, Anniversaries and what not. This is the right time to take steps to improve our knowledge by reading good books and journals, and also to encourage others to live their lives to the full, physically, spiritually, intellectually and socially.
