Communication for Mission

Aware of the need of communicatin for mission, the Inter Province Communication Commission (IPCC) organized a training session of 3 days (25 to 27 May 2019), for the sisters of our four Indian Provinces at Ashaniketan, Bhopal.

The IPCC briefly went through the vision and mission statement of the International Communication Commission (ICC), keeping in mind the charism of the congregation and the need to bring about unity in diversity in our intercultural experiences to promote union and communion.

“Individually we are closed up in our own world. We need to go beyond the boundaries, in order to live the Charism”, said Sr. Navya. The main aim of this communication ministry is to connect everyone and create awareness and involve sisters of the Indian Provinces  in the process of communication.

It is necessary to develop the critical use of the means of communication, encouraging the production of news items related to the congregation, provinces, regions and missions and also develop the capacity of the members and associates to have access to this information.

Sr. Navya explained the method of drafting a hard news story and asked the participants to write hard news stories during the training programmeitself. As a support to make the write-up effective, we were given a glimpse of how to work on photoshop.

“Good communication is in the mind and not in the media,” said Fr. Anthony,  the resource person. “Communication is not related to the newspaper, radio, T.V.etc but in our ability to interpret, to see, and to develop our aesthetic and technical competence, use tools and gadgets, media and cultural values”. Fr. Anthony enlightened us saying, we need to have a broader and wider understanding of communication.

Pope Francis in his message on the 53rd World Communications Day, quoted from Eph: 4/25, regarding communication. ‘We are members one of another – from social network communities to human community’.
“The capacity for understanding and communicating among human persons is based on the communion of love among the three divine persons. God is not ‘Solitude but Communion.’ God is Love, and therefore is communication, because love always communicates. Indeed, it communicates itself in order to encounter the other” said the Holy Father.

Different softwares such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesigninggave us  practical insights intohow to communicate through creative studio. It helped us to learn how to set up the page and design articles, magazines etc. Working on this system we were enriched by the knowledge of creative writing in the process of communication.

The successful accomplishment of our mission depends on effective communication, which brings about interaction among the members of a community, which in turn promotes the growth of individuals and community.
