International Day against Drug Abuse

St. Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary School, Pulluvazhy, Kerala observed the International Day against Drug Abuse on 26th June, 2025 with an impactful awareness programme, echoing this year’s school theme: “Be Vessel and Voice of Hope.” A group of 35 students, guided by 10 teachers and sisters, presented a powerful street play at Perumbavoor bus stand, drawing significant public attention.

The play portrayed a deeply emotional story of a mother tragically killed by her own son, who had fallen into drug addiction. Through this gripping narrative, the students highlighted the devastating consequences of drug abuse, not only for individuals but also for families and society at large.

In recent times, Kerala has witnessed a worrying rise in drug use, partly attributed to increased migration from other parts of India, leading to higher crime rates in certain areas. Recognising this alarming trend, the school took the initiative to spread awareness among the public about the dangers of substance abuse and its impact on communities.

Many passers-by stopped to watch the performance, visibly moved by the message. The school community hopes that this effort, aligned with our theme of being vessels and voices of hope, will bring about a positive change, inspiring people to stay vigilant and work collectively to combat the menace of drugs.

St. Joseph’s Convent continues its commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens through such meaningful initiatives.
